The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a heartbreaking incident that has left a community in mourning after four members of a Daphne family were found dead from apparent gunshot wounds early Thursday morning.
Authorities say the victims have been identified as Larrica Smith, her two children—15-year-old Kristian Smith and 11-year-old Kensley Smith—and her husband, Kenneth “Kenny” Smith. Preliminary findings indicate the incident is being investigated as a suspected murder-suicide, with investigators stating that Kenneth Smith died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Deputies were called to the family’s home on Sable Court around 3:30 a.m. for a welfare check after a concerned family member contacted law enforcement. Upon arrival, deputies knocked and looked through windows before forcing entry into the residence, where they discovered all four family members deceased.
Sheriff Anthony Lowery described the scene as “as tragic as it comes,” confirming that two of the victims were children. Counselors have been made available at the schools attended by Kristian and Kensley to help support grieving classmates.

Kenneth Smith, a military combat veteran, had transitioned to civilian life as an independent insurance adjuster and home inspector. Friends remember him as disciplined and hardworking. Larrica Smith, who worked at EXIT Realty Lyon in Fairhope, was deeply rooted in Baldwin County. She attended Baldwin County High School, studied at the University of South Alabama and Coastal Alabama Community College, and was described by friends as warm, dedicated, and deeply committed to her family.
The couple’s relationship began during their university years, and they had built a life together in Daphne, a city known for its close-knit neighborhoods.
News of the tragedy has sent shockwaves through the community. Neighbors described the Smiths as friendly and engaged, often seen spending time with their children. “This is devastating,” one nearby resident said. “You never expect something like this to happen so close to home.”

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office has urged the public to avoid the Sable Court area while emergency crews and investigators process the scene. No additional details about the motive or circumstances leading to the incident have been released.
